Axelrod Contemporary Ballet Company Offers "Summer in Wonderland" Intensive

The Axelrod Contemporary Ballet [AXCBT], NJ’s newest professional ballet company, is offering area dance students the opportunity to study performance dance in a professional setting during the company’s “Summer in Wonderland Dance Intensive.”

“While the area’s dance schools give youngsters a wonderful opportunity to study the basics of dance, I saw that there were virtually no opportunities for them to experience the professional side of dance,” says AXCBT Founder and Choreographer Gabrielle Chajnik.

“We’ve crafted an exciting program focusing on the power of dance performance,” he continues. “Performing to a live audience in a professional theater, with the skills and technique to get up and do it, is an important life skill.  It builds confidence and self-reliance that go far beyond the world of dance”.

The latest in the company’s series of dance intensives, the “Summer in Wonderland” program begins a multi-week schedule on August 1 that is led by a world-class faculty that includes AXCBT Director and Juilliard graduate Chajnik; Michael Trusnovec from the Paul Taylor Dance Company;  Julie Caprio from Washington Ballet - Harkness Ballet, and the AXCBT professional dance company.

The intensive culminates with the opening night of AXCBT’s spectacular take on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” on August 21.

The ballet features ten professional dancers, along with students, as well as original music by acclaimed composer David Winkler, and a live orchestra conducted by Maestro Jason Tramm.

During morning sessions, students receive individual attention and custom instruction in a variety of dance disciplines including ballet, pointe, partnering, modern, contemporary, repertory, and men’s class, as well as strengthening and conditioning.

The second part of the day is an immersion into the artistic and choreographic process of preparation for the performances of “Alice in Wonderland.”

“It’s an amazing opportunity for the aspiring dancer to gain professional dance experience and enjoy the fun and camaraderie of performing”, says AXCBT Founder and Board President, Elise Feldman.  “We know that in terms of dance training, a summer program can make a big impact. With school out for the summer, students can focus their energy and passion and take their dancing to the next level.”
