Avamere Resident Shares Passion for Fine Needlework Internationally
WILSONVILLE, Ore., August 13, 2019 (Newswire.com) - As a needlework artist for over 40 years, Lee McLeron, a resident at Avamere at Port Townsend, has showcased her work internationally and in collections in the United States.
Her work has been featured in collections at the John C. Stennis Space Center in Mississippi and the Peabody Essex Museum in Massachusetts.
“Continual practice and experimentation over many years by many fiber artists has led to fine needlework becoming a polished art form,” McLeron said. “I am proud to share this artistic genre with a larger audience.”
McLeron’s lifelong passion for needlework started with her Scottish grandmother, who taught her darning, tatting and needlework.
She became certified as a needlework judge and teacher and continued her studies in the early 1960s with a master teacher certification from the Royal School of Needlework in London, England. McLeron then moved to Spokane, Washington where she taught embroidery and participated in several area guilds between 1970 and 2010.
Today, McLeron resides at Avamere at Port Townsend, an independent and assisted living community in Washington State, where she continues her passion for needlework.
According to Avamere at Port Townsend’s Community Relations Director, Lois Jasmer, their local area is brimming with artists. McLeron is one of three artists in their senior living community.
