Authors Peter S. Vinal & Joan B. Vinal's new book, 'Chewy the Woodchuck', is a delightful true story of an unlikely friendship between a woodchuck and a dog
HAMPSTEAD, N.C., June 15, 2021 (Newswire.com) - Peter S. Vinal and Joan B. Vinal have completed their new book, "Chewy the Woodchuck": a true-life tale 40 years in the making. The story was a bedtime favorite for the Vinal family that can now be enjoyed by readers everywhere.
The story of Chewy started in 1957, when artist Joan B. Vinal witnessed a wild groundhog and the family dog forge a contentious, yet playful relationship in a field near her home. She was inspired to develop the story in words and art to entertain her kids as a bedtime story. Her kids loved the story, but then they grew up and the book was put aside.
Forty years later, the book, with its original watercolor drawings and hand lettering, was discovered tucked away in an attic box by Joan's son Pete. Peter collected the yellowing paper and rusty staples and took these old pages and watercolors and reformatted it, digitized it, re-illustrated some and got it published. Peter knew his mom's health was failing, but he was able to give it to her before she passed. She cried, which was the first time Peter had seen her cry. He promised to get it out to all the kids to read, and he put some blank pages in the back of the book so kids can be inspired and start writing their own stories.
Readers who wish to experience this charming, beautifully illustrated tale can purchase "Chewy the Woodchuck" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iBooks Store, Amazon, or Barnes & Noble.
