Company leaders at Aster & Evergreen have put high leadership and performance expectations in place for the coming months. The firm's Director of Operations discussed these objectives and shared some tips for meeting lofty goals.

“Here at Aster & Evergreen, 2015 was amazing,” said Lauren, the company’s Director of Operations. “With the new year upon us, we’ve shifted our focus to even more ambitious goals. My colleagues and I are especially interested in maximizing the leadership and performance potential of our people. They’re already high achievers, of course, but we want to ensure they continue to learn and grow.”

Lauren admitted that the past 12 months have been so fruitful that the option to slow down for a bit is difficult to resist. However, she also pointed out that doing so would likely lead to irrelevance. No matter how successful Aster & Evergreen is at a particular time, the rate of change in today’s world is far too rapid to risk becoming complacent.

“Rather than get outpaced by our competition, we’re staying ahead of the game,” Lauren stated. “That’s why performance and leadership matter so much. We have a number of related opportunities on the horizon, ranging from national conferences and retreats to regional training seminars and lunch speakers. We’re all incredibly excited for what’s to come!”

“I’m invested in the process of goal setting because putting objectives and benchmarks in place gives us direction, along with a map to get us to our destination,” Lauren continued. “Although effective goal setting isn’t terribly difficult, it isn’t as simple as many people think, either. There’s a lot to consider. For instance, objectives must be challenging yet realistic. They should also be specific and measurable, allowing everyone involved to assess their progress and adjust their positions if needed along the way.”

According to the Aster & Evergreen Director, it’s also useful to write down short-term and long-term goals. Research indicates that individuals who do so are significantly more likely to fulfill their expectations than those who do not record their goals. Putting them in writing also transforms objectives from thoughts into real plans for which everyone involved is accountable.

“Finally, I highly recommend celebrating even the smallest accomplishments,” Lauren concluded. “The journey to realizing goals isn’t always smooth, so recognizing victories along the way adds extra energy and motivation that comes in handy when navigating obstacles. Celebration is also a lot of fun, and I’m a firm believer that fun should never be discounted – even when it comes to work!”
