Art Show Celebrating Yiddish Language and Its Proverbs: Opening in Houston, Texas by Brazilian Artist
Houston, TX, August 20, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Opening Sunday, August 23rd is the Art exhibit by Brazilian Judaica artist, Deborah Rolnik Raichman, on Yiddish Shprichverter, ( Yiddish Expressions). Artist reception will take place at the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC, located at 5601 S. Braeswood, Houston, TX, 77096, at 3:00 pm.
The show will be on display from August 18th to September 3rd.

Deborah Rolnik Raichman is a Brazilian architect presently living in Houston, Texas. Mrs. Raichman has been studying Jewish sources in search for an authentic Jewish art. She often blends calligraphy into her mixed media art. The artist uses bold colors and strong images to express her interpretation of the Shprichverter (Yiddish Expressions). “I feel that art dealing with Yiddish should be approached with very contemporary media to assert that Yiddish wisdom is not something ancient, of the Old Country, but on the contrary, very apropos,” she said. Her purpose as an artist “is to awaken Jewish pride among her people”.
Proverbs are the soul of a people! They reflect their manner of thought on life and how human beings live it, on G-d and the world, good fortune and bad; they express the joys and griefs of a nation. The Yiddish language is rich in colorful proverbs and expressions that reveal wisdom, moral and a culture. Learning about them is opening a window to Jewish heritage.
