Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony Kicks Off the Holiday Season in Downtown Alhambra

Enjoy shopping, free photo-ops with Santa, and holiday entertainment!

Downtown Alhambra kicks off the holidays at the city's annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 6, from 6 pm – 9 pm. Festivities will take place at Edwards Renaissance Plaza, located at 1 East Main St., on the corner of Garfield Ave and Main St.

Per tradition, Santa will ride into town via fire truck, and light the Christmas tree at 6 pm. After the ceremony, families are invited to take complimentary photos with Santa during the night. Attendees will also get to enjoy adjacent eateries, shopping from local pop-up vendors, and holiday-day themed entertainment from PopRock Academy, and the Daurden Performing Arts Conservatory.

PopRock Academy will be bringing their PopRockers, Mini-PopRockers, Hip Hop Crew, K-Pop Troupe, Break Dance Crew, Glee workshop singers and more to the Alhambra Tree Lighting event. The young performers, ranging from the ages of seven years old to early teens, will be performing hit songs and holiday tunes all evening.

Daurden Performing Arts Conservatory will be presenting for the second year in a row, A Contemporary Nutcracker, a modern whimsical take on the classic Christmas story. The company consists of professional industry and student dancers, dynamic professional aerialists and young aerial artists from the school’s Aerial Program, Daurden DPAC AIR.

In the tradition of spreading holiday cheer, donation boxes will also be available on-site to help support the Alhambra Fire Department's Spark of Love Toy Drive. Last year the community helped to fill two huge boxes. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy or gift certificate to help out those in need.

This yearly event is a collaborative effort produced by the Downtown Alhambra Business Association (DABA) and the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce. DABA president, Liza Rodriguez, commented, “It’s always amazing to see how the ornaments, twinkling lights, entertainment and photo-ops with Santa, gets everyone into the Christmas spirit, as well as the giving spirit. All the goodwill contributes to the growth of our local businesses and community.”
