American Megatrends Announces Support for Dual Secure SPI Technology for AMD Embedded G-Series and R-Series APUs

Dual Secure SPI technology provides the ability to keep the system firmware device, including the BIOS, from being changed during normal operation while enabling updates to NVRAM on a second device

American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a leader in BIOS and computing innovations, is pleased to announce support for Dual Secure SPI technology for AMD Embedded G-Series and R-Series APUs. AMI has collaborated with AMD to develop this capability and make it available to AMD customers worldwide.

Briefly, Dual Secure SPI technology provides the ability to keep the one system firmware device, including the BIOS, from being changed during normal operation. Dual Secure SPI still enables a user to make updates to NVRAM on a second device. AMI is the first independent BIOS vendor to offer support for this technology for select AMD platforms. Additionally, Dual Secure SPI technology is also anticipated to be compliant with key U.S. and global gaming commission standards, where there is a premium on system security, integrity and defense against tampering with system firmware.

"AMI is addressing an important need with the new Dual Secure SPI solution for AMD Embedded G-Series and R-Series APU-based platforms," said Kevin Tanguay, senior product marketing manager, AMD Embedded Solutions Group. "AMI responded with its usual speed and attention to detail to quickly deliver this solution. We believe that AMI's Dual Secure SPI is a unique solution that will appeal to a number of embedded applications that need separate devices for system firmware and variable storage."

Subramonian Shankar, President and CEO of American Megatrends commented that "AMI is pleased to be the first BIOS vendor to provide support for this technology on select AMD embedded systems as a result of our collaboration with AMD. We feel that this technology will be of great interest to the gaming and other industries that require secure Flash partitions for system firmware."
