Acres of Land Winery Take Four Medals in Two International Wine Competitions This Month

Acres of Land Winery in Richmond, Kentucky has been awarded four medals in two separate wine competitions that were held this month.

Acres of Land Winery took part in two wine competitions this month. The first was the 20th Indy International Wine Competition, held August 3 through 5 in Indianapolis, Indiana. In that competition Acres of Land was awarded a silver medal for it's Concord wine, and a bronze medal for the Willie Mae's Blackberry dessert wine. The Concord grapes are grown on premises. The Blackberry wine is named for the owner's mother, Willie Mae Land. Both are sweet wines with fresh jammy flavors.

Out of almost 2,500 wines entered in this commercial competition, only 912 received silvers and 496 were awarded bronze medals. The fifty-three judges, from around the United States, were comprised of industry experts, winemakers, wine writers and enologists.

The Indy Wine Competition is the largest independent wine competition in the world and awards from this competition offer a well-rounded look at consumer preferences.

The Kentucky State Fair Wine Competition was held Saturday, August 13, in Louisville, Kentucky. Acres of Land's Vignoles wine scored a gold medal in competition, one of only 31 gold medals given. Acres of Land's Concord wine, a multi-award winner this year, took home a bronze medal. Earlier this year it received a Concordance Gold, which means every judge awarded it a gold medal, at the Tasters Guild International Wine Competition held in Washington D.C.

Over 200 wines were entered in the 4th Kentucky State Fair Commercial Wine Competition, which is open only to Kentucky commercial wineries. A total of 112 medals were awarded during the competition by twelve judges who were wine industry experts.
