Aava's Scandinavian-Inspired Milk & Sugar Set Features Style, Simplicity

This past week, Aava, the Scandinavian-influenced home goods designer, launched a new line of kitchenware that includes a handsome milk & tea set featuring modest design and a mix of two different materials.

Tea time has taken a beautiful turn.

Suitable for tea, coffee and other drinks, the set adds a sense of sparse design reminiscent of the craftsmen of Sweden, Finland and Norway.

The Milk & Tea Set is one of nine different dishware elements launched by the company this week. Each piece in the new line of products is crafted from ceramic and wood, and each is made in the spirit of Nordic functionality.

The milk pitcher in the set is crafted from sturdy ceramic. The main part of the pitcher is square, but near the top it narrows to a smaller square opening and a rounded, short spout. A geometric handle juts out from the back of the pitcher.

Taken as a reflection of the culture which inspired it, the pitcher is an avatar of function underscored by a deceivingly humble design.

The sugar container that accompanies the milk pitcher is, visually speaking, the perfect complement to its dairy-hefting counterpart. Whereas the pitcher starts with a square base and moves to a smaller square opening above, the sugar container moves from a small square base to a larger opening above.

The inverted design is capped off by a round-edge bamboo cover emblazoned by the Aava logo.

Both pieces sit on a slender ceramic base.

The clean lines featured in the Milk & Sugar Set enable the piece to fit well with everyday use, or as a side piece in a more upscale gathering or pre-determined coffee or tea time.

The product description for the Milk & Sugar Set point out that Aava’s intention in designing the piece is part of a larger initiative: to create “exquisite kitchen and serving sets that go well beyond the everyday and reach for the sublime.”

That mission is certainly present in the set, as the simplicity of design meets high functionality to give its owner a sense that beauty is found in minimalism and usability.

Initial impressions of the set invoke images of slowly sipping a morning cup of coffee while watching the sun creep up over the tree line of a distant, snow-covered mountain.

Aava’s Milk & Sugar set was manufactured from “premium materials and creative design,” according to the description.

This new line is the newest release since Aava’s debut of their two-cup bamboo platter set and their 14-piece amuse bouche set this past fall.

According to the company’s website, all releases in their dishware genre are “designed to meet the tastes of our highly discerning customer who enjoy aesthetically pleasing elegance and minimalism.”

The Aava Milke & Tea Set is available for purchase on the manufacturer’s website, http://aavanordic.com/shop/, under “Aava Serving Sets,” and is currently selling for $169.
