A highlight of the meeting will be the Jordan M. Phillips Keynote Speaker during the Opening Ceremony. Physician-astronaut and five-time NASA space shuttle flier, Dr. Scott Parazynski will be delivering his address on Innovation in the Extreme. As an astronaut, Dr. Parazynski was instrumental in developing a mentorship program within the astronaut corps that increased the ratio of spacewalk-qualified astronauts from 25% to more than 80%. Providing some much-anticipated entertainment value will be “Operating with the Stars”, a creative spin on the popular ABC-TV series Dancing with the Stars. Three expert “star” surgeons will be paired with three attendees and each team will perform live cadaveric surgery on stage using their preferred route (laparoscopic, robotic, or vaginal). Special judges and audience response will provide entertaining commentary and team points.
