A Maker Studio Launches Kickstarter for a UV Printer to Spark Innovation in Orange County
Fountain Valley, California, November 7, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Factory eNova announced that they will be expanding their line up of studio equipment available for public use, which will include a Roland VersaUV LEF-20 UV Printer. This expansion will grant local residents the ability to print color beyond the limits of a page, users will be able to print directly onto three-dimensional objects. This UV printer will bring color into the emerging maker, startup, and artist communities here in Orange County, California.
UV PRINTING AND SIGNIFICANCE
Ultraviolet (UV) printing is the process of using UV inks, which are dried and cured with UV light. This uses a low heat lamp that enables printing directly on a wide range of materials, including PVC, PET, ABS, wood, fabric, acrylic, and metal. It is even capable of printing directly onto electronics like a phone, tablet or laptop. This allows users to create and customize a wide variety of products, as well as their prototypes, packaging and parts.
Orange County’s strength has always been in its hardware development scene, with public access to a UV Printer, startups and young corporations will be able to rapidly develop beautiful prototypes that they can present to VCs and investors. These equipment aren’t just helpful for the tech scene, Factory eNova fosters a large artist and maker community where the UV Printer will enable them to begin small domestic production runs that could launch more creative businesses.
THE TEAM AND HISTORY
This expansion is being lead by Seth Inyang and Vinh Lieu, founders of Factory eNova. Both are mechanical engineer graduates who realized in their past collaborative projects that there was a lack of high-end prototyping equipment and education in the Orange County area.
A year and half ago the studio opened its doors with three Epilog Helix Laser Systems and a Cubify Cubex 3D Printer. Since then education and innovation has been its foundation, and their high tech tools have been the medium for creativity. Adding the UV Printer brings Seth and Vinh one step closer to making it more applicable to a wider variety of users and industries.
Factory eNova hopes to grow as a space where people from all backgrounds can come together to create.
THE KICKSTARTER
From November 4rd to December 3rd, Factory eNova is raising $15,0000 USD to pay for the new Roland VersaUV LEF-20 UV Printer, the exhaust system set-up, the workstation for its use, and the development of a training course for members. Factory eNova is an established brick-and-mortar facility running every day to help their members make more and more of their creations through simplified processes. Factory eNova believes that their methods continue to improve with time and with clear vision. Every dime goes back to the studio to make it better. “Making Made Easy” is their motto and we strive to make this more of a reality every day.
