A Free Seminar On Addiction - Savant Care Is All Set To Strike Back
Los Altos, CA, May 28, 2015 (Newswire.com) - A free workshop and seminar will take place on June 4 at 6p.m on addiction awareness. The venue is at 4966 EI Camino Real STE #224, Los Altos, CA 94022. Dr. Vidushi Savant (Co-founder of Savant Systems Inc.) and Dr. Sonia Parikh will have a detailed community discussion on addiction. The Stanford trained psychiatrists will cover as much as they can on - what leads to addiction, different types of addiction (the common and rare ones), long term effects of addiction on a developing and developed brain and different psychiatric problems that can arise due to addiction. They would also stress on the biochemical changes that occur in brain when someone is addicted to something.
Just like heart problems and diabetes, treatments are there for curing addictions. And people do respond to medications. In fact, “they can get back to normal life and use their inner talents to shine in the society” said Dr.Savant. She and Dr.Parikh will throw lights on causes, symptoms, treatments of addiction and various other essential aspects in the seminar.
The main aim of the seminar is to increase awareness about addiction in the hope that more people with this problem will be encouraged to get proper care and seek help. Besides, the community discussion will also focus on stamping out the stigma that is associated with this medical disorder.
Dr.Vidushi Savant and Dr. Sonia Parikh are already working hard to stamp out the stigma that is associated with mental disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, OCD, panic disorder, schizoaffective disorder, insomnia, etc. The common perception is that only crazy people go to psychiatrists and people with mental disorders are basically mad. This is completely a wrong conception. This is a very real and serious illness and people having these types of problems should not be looked down upon. Getting help from psychiatrists is not a sign of weakness. It’s rather a step towards a healthy and a normal life.
"If a person with hypertension or a person with diabetes should not feel ashamed to take anti-hypertensives or insulin, then why should a person with depression should feel ashamed of taking anti-depressants?" said Dr.Vidushi Savant in her recent interview with KTVU. She further added clinical disorder with a biological basis can be treated with the combination of therapy and medication. Likewise, there is proper treatment for addictions too. People just need to shed their inhibitions, come forward and seek help from doctors.
