Galveston Island Shrimp Festival Kicks Off Sept. 21
Third Annual Event to Include FREE Boat & RV Show, Parade and 2-Day Cook-Off

GALVESTON ISLAND, TX - Galveston Island is a seafood lover's paradise all year round, but this September Yaga's Entertainment Inc. will bring foodies a little taste of Heaven at the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival to be held September 21-23. Featuring some of the best shrimp gumbo the Gulf Coast has to offer, this year's festival features an expanded festival area in Galveston's Historic Strand District with a FREE Boat & RV Show, 2-day Cook-Off, and more!

Event festivities begin on Friday, September 21 at 5:00pm when the FREE Boat & RV Show open along with various vendors exhibits and conclude with a Texas Size Shrimp Dinner in Saengerfest Park honoring the cook-off teams, vendors and sponsors. The Shrimp Gumbo Cook-Off, Boat & RV Show, Vendors Exhibits and Live Music will be held in downtown Galveston on Saturday, September 22 beginning at 10:00am. Visitors to the festival will be able to purchase a Gumbo Sampling Cup in advance for $8 or day of the event for $10. This cup will allow guests to sample gumbo from over 80 cook-off teams comprised of amateur and professional cookers from 11:00am-3:00pm on Saturday, September 22. In the professional category, Bernardo's Restaurant at Hotel Galvez will be defending their 2-time title as the Best Gumbo in Galveston.

Adding to the excitement that weekend, the USS Fort Worth littoral combat ship (LCS-3) will sail into the Port of Galveston with commanders, crew and dignitaries for the most memorable commissioning the Navy has ever seen on Saturday, September 22. The Port of Galveston will also welcome the Disney Magic Cruise Ship for their first sail out of Texas. The Disney Magic, a 2,400-passenger ship, will begin sailing from Galveston September 22 offering seven-day Caribbean cruises. Ports of call will include: Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; Costa Maya, Mexico; and Cozumel, Mexico.

Festivities continue on Sunday, September 23, 2013 with a 5K Fun Run, Lil' Shrimps Parade, FREE Boat & RV Show, Vendor Exhibits and a second round of the cook-off. On Sunday the amateur teams will be competing in a NEW category-Shrimp Burger. All shrimp burgers will be submitted to a select panel of judges and the winning burger will be placed on the Yaga's Cafe menu along with the winning shrimp gumbo for one year. Events will conclude with an award ceremony in Saengerfest Park on Sunday at 3:00pm.
