3D Video Games Expected to Boost 3D TV Sales

Industry experts believe that 3D video games will give 3D TV sales a lift. With Sony and Nintendo releasing its 3D enabled consoles, the demand for 3D TVs is expected to raise.

A stream of soon-to-be -released 3D video games is believed to give sales of 3D TVs a lift. TV makers and retailers had hoped that 3D TV sets would get off to a better start in 2010. However, according to iSuppli Market Research, only four percent of the TVs shipped to retailers in the first quarter of 2010 -- about 1.8 million out of 46.5 million -- were 3D.

One of the reasons as pointed out by many experts was lack of 3D programming. But with the launch of 3net ventures from Sony, Discovery and Imax and a string of 3-D video games has made the 3-D TV manufactures bullish. Last year Sony Corporation had announced the latest versions of PlayStation 3 with more memory capacity than the previous versions. The latest version, 320 GB PS3 which includes Move motion-control game system was launched in 18 September 2010. It marked an intense competition between Sony's Playstation, Nintendo's Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360.

Kyoto-based gaming giant, Nintendo, had recently unveiled the list of video games for its 3DS handheld which will be available for purchase on the same day of the console's release. The Nintendo 3DS, a portable gaming console which lets the users view 3D content without the need for special glasses, will be released on March 25th , 2011 in Europe and in North America it will arrive on March 27.
