Like many companies, GUD experienced a step up in competition from both local and global firms since the GFC. The Awards suggest that changes from all levels of GUD from the Board down to lift business performance and address GUD’s investment portfolio are being recognised by the investment community”.
In the Commercial Services sector Spotless Group ‘cleaned up’, winning Best Company, Best Board, Best CFO and Best ESG. CFO Danny Agnoletto was personally on hand to collect the Awards, along with Chair Margaret Jackson AC who commented that “Spotless re-listed just over 18 months ago, so to be recognised and awarded in so many categories is testament to the hard work of our team and vindication of Spotless’s strategy and business model. I am overwhelmed to receive such a positive response from our investors and thank everyone who voted. We look forward to the ongoing support of the capital markets as Spotless continues with its growth strategy, reinforcing our position as Australia’s leading integrated facility services provider.”
Steve Fleming at Corporate Travel Management was voted Best CFO not only in the Hotels, Restaurants & Leisure sector, but also across the entire Next 100. Aveo Group was voted Best Investment Desirability in the Real Estate sector, and CEO Geoff Grady accepted their Awards.
Richard Beaurepaire, Chairman of East Coles Australia and former Deutsche Global Sector Product Head, said “It’s not just the companies with best share prices that have been voted as the best performers by investors. It’s companies with a clearly articulated and well-executed strategy, strong leadership and cohesive and unified management teams that are recognised by well-informed investors.”
The Awards Night was held to celebrate the achievements of the winners from the annual East Coles Corporate Performance Research. The Research asked analysts from both fund managers and brokers to evaluate the S&P/ASX 200. The scores were aggregated to create league tables in each category, and then broken down into Top 100, Next 100 (101-200) and then sectors.
The idea of the Research is to provide a feedback mechanism between the investment community and the ASX 200 to ensure corporates are more finely attuned to investor sentiment. The Research provides an opportunity for investors to express their satisfaction or otherwise with the companies they cover and show their appreciation where they feel value has been added.
