2012 Brevard Scholarship Competition Winners Announced
Online, February 17, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The Camden/Kershaw County Music Association, an affiliate of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC,) held the annual Brevard Scholarship Competition Saturday, February 11 at the Fine Arts Center.
The prestigious Brevard Scholarship winner was Zach Truesdale, marimba player, student of Caitlin McMurtrie, North Central High School Band Director and Nick Guilliano. His parents are Phillipe and Kristina Truesdale. The Brevard Scholarship is given by Sibby and Max Wood in memory of her mother, Margaret Beckley Upton. The scholarship entitles the winner to six weeks of intensive summer study at the Brevard Music Center under the direction of Keith Lockhart, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor.
The Junior $100 Scholarship winner was Kirkland Moranos, flutist, student of Teri Forscher-Milter. Her parents are Scott and Paige Moranos. The Senior/Fran Shealy $400 Scholarship winner was Bailey Dabbs, pianist and student of Mrs. Judy Patrick. Her parents are Chris and Donna Dabbs. The Fran Shealy Scholarship given by the Music Association is in memory of Mrs. Fran Shealy, who for many years, taught and influenced excellent piano students throughout Kershaw County.

Throughout its 71 year history, the heart of the Brevard Music Center has been orchestral performance. In addition to private lessons, students in the Instrumental Studies program rehearse daily and maintain a regular concert schedule. The faculty numbers more than 60 professional musicians associated with the finest orchestras, colleges and conservatories in the country. Brevard presents more than 80 public concerts each summer. Its students and faculty live and work on a 140 acre wooded campus in western North Carolina.
