PHILADELPHIA, PA - Flannelpalooza Chuckoachella, a cross pollination of the comedy, theater and music communities, is the first ever festival of its kind to hit Philadelphia. The theme of "over sized magic" has re-imagined the 2500 square foot venue to look and feel like an outdoor music festival. Local vendors, jewelers and artists will be on hand showcasing their work. Baked goods from Kermit's Bakery will be available for purchase. Hosted by grunge rock parody band The Flannel Chucks and featuring funk-rockers Johnny Showcase and the Mystic Ticket, the festival ranges in style from ska to punk to R & B to blue grass to grunge to classical to sexy-funk-soul. Bands include Daniel deJesus, Jawbone Junction, Brasshole Fiasco, The Tubes, Jimi Haak, Huey and The White Cheddar Boys, The Mean Wendy Band, Sean Max Fred, and Useful Rooster.
Johnny Showcase is a sweaty, charismatic showman from Rhode Island who is equal parts Andy Kaufman and Prince. Surrounding him is a rag tag group of performers, including spiritual adviser Rumi Kitchen, two vacuous vocalists collectively named The Truth, and knife sharp backing band The Mystic Ticket. Carrying the torch of our funk-rock pioneers, they have gained a massive following and propelled Johnny to something that of a funky Philly folk hero legend.
Named after the little town they hail from on the banks of the Arkansas River, Jawbone Junctionhave been legends in the Delta region for the past decade. It's even said if you stand in the forest anywhere between Baton Rouge and Memphis and ask the wind "Who is the greatest Southern Rock band of all?", the wind will quietly answer "Junction...Junction."
Useful Rooster is a quirky singer/songwriter duo of Shannon DeVido and Nora Whittaker Jones. Complete with tight harmonies and comedic songs, they have been compared to Barenaked Ladies and They Might Be Giants.
The Flannel Chucks, hosts of the 2015 Flannelpalooza Chuckoachella, are Philadelphia's only 90's grunge-rock parody band. TFC are Beth Eisenberg, Neil Engelman, Rob Alesiani and Kristen Schier. Come as you are.
