Rocket Launch Of Unmanned Mission Highly Anticipated By Rayotek Scientific Inc.
San Diego, CA, November 19, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Rayotek Scientific, Inc. is excited to announce their upcoming attendance at the Delta IV launch of the Orion Exploration Flight Test 1 (EFT-1) Mission. The launch is planned for December 4, 2014 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida. United Launch Alliance in partnership with Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company is in the process of moving Nasa’s Orion spacecraft to the launch pad where it will be mounted on top of the Delta IV rocket for the first test flight.
Rayotek provided consulting, engineering, and manufacturing of the fused silica windows. In addition, Rayotek designed and built the laser defect scanning system and the proof pressure test systems, both essential for insuring window reliability and future crew safety.

For testing future human missions to deep space, the uncrewed spacecraft will travel 3,600 miles above Earth on a four hour plus flight to test many of the critical systems. According to NASA, after two orbits and 60,000 miles, Orion will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere at almost 20,000 mph before its parachute systems deploy to slow the spacecraft for a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego. The goal of future missions on the Orion spacecraft is to propel astronauts farther than ever before into the solar system.
