Maldives Success at World Travel Awards

The world travel awards were hosted on May 12th at the Paradise Island Resort in the Maldives.

Not only did the country do a fantastic job hosting the prestigious awards but also did extremely well in the categories. The event which The Ministry for Tourism, Arts and Culture said would "play a significant part in promoting the Maldives internationally this year" provided a major boost to the reputation of the Maldives.

The country was awarded such accolades as Indian Ocean's best beach, cruise and overall regional destination beating other close countries such as Mauritius, Madagascar and Reunion Island.

Various resorts in the Maldives such as Conrad Rangali Island, Sun Island Resort and Spa and Ayada Maldives all won awards including Leading Green Resort 2013 and Indian Ocean's Most Romantic Resort 2013.

Mali airport was awarded 'Indian Ocean's Leading Airport 2013', and the Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation was honoured 'Indian Ocean's Leading Tourist Board 2013'. The awards host venue Paradise Island took a few awards throughout the evening such as leading family resort

The president of the Maldives was in attendance and said of the event "Tourism in the Maldives has grown into a world class industry over the past 40 years, and today we have the honour of hosting the World Travel Awards, The ceremony highlighted what a fantastic tourist destination the Maldives is and hopefully it will further boost people to visit the tropical and tranquil islands.

World Travel Awards was founded back in 1993 to reward excellence in the world wide travel, tourism and hospitality industry. It's widely regarded as the highest achievement a travel service could ever hope to receive.
