DirectRooms.com - Visitors to Mukah Ccan Experience a Real Tribal Celebration of Kaul in April.

DirectRoom.com reveals that visitors staying in Mukah in April will be able to take part in the festival celebration of Kaul.

The traditional festival is celebrated every year on Sarawak's coast by the Melanau. Historically, it is thought that the festival was a religious thanks giving to the spirits of the sea, forest land and farms, and a time when the people would show their utmost gratitude. It is considered to be a ritual of purification as well as inviting luck and good fortune.

The celebrations coincide with the end of the monsoon in the Northeast and the beginning of the fishing season, taking place in the third week of April each year. This year the three day event will take place on the 29 April to 01 May. Ethnic stalls sell native foods on the bank of the Mukah River and an entertainment programme of traditional dance and games is typical.

The festival will be officially launched on 30th April by YAB Chief Minister of Sarawak and a procession of Serahang - sago leaf baskets raised on bamboo poles - will commence.

Visitors booking into Kota Kinabalu Airport hotels will find it easy to travel to the Mukah River estuary and enjoy the festival atmosphere as well as gain a unique insight into the lives of the native people.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "This is a unique festival and one that should not be missed by those travelling in the area. Book online now in order to take the hassle out of your trip and find the best deals."
