How to Motivate Your Blog Readers to Connect With You on Social Media

You have blog followers. You have followers on social networking sites too. Why connect the two? What is there to gain? The truth is that many of your blog followers probably don’t actually visit your blog as often as you’d like.

Yet they’re clicking away on social media from their phones, notebooks, and laptops all day long. When you connect with your blog readers on social media you gain more consistent followers, interaction, and ultimately you engage with your audience ore often. There are several tactics you can embrace to motivate your blog readers to connect with you on social media.

1. Remind Your Readers to Share Your Content

There are an abundance of plug-ins that allow you to add “social share” buttons and bars to your blog. You can position these social share buttons anywhere in your blog posts or elsewhere throughout your blog. For example, many bloggers have found that positioning the social share buttons in the top right-hand corner of each post works best. Others prefer the bottom-left corner, right under the post and before the comment area. Test and track the position of your social share buttons to find the location that generates the best results for you.

2. Ask For the Follow

In your blog post’s call to action, invite your readers to connect with you on your social media page. You can do this in a number of ways. You can simply ask them to connect with you on social media and share your URL.

3. Incentivize Them

You can also offer an incentive. For example, you might give them a free promotional code to use on your products or services when they connect with you on social media. You can provide them with an opt-in offer that’s available on your social media page or you can enter them into a contest to win a relevant prize.

4. Share Social Media Activity

Within the content of your blog posts you can mention social media conversations. You can even link to them. You can further extend the content on your social media page as well. For example, you might offer ten tips to lose weight on your blog and offer weight loss dessert recipes on your social media page. Connecting the content can help your readers find you on social media.

Create goals and build a strategy to integrate your blog and social media audiences. You’ll be able to provide a more comprehensive experience and you’ll ensure that your audience doesn’t miss any of your content, promotions, or press release news. Use plug-ins and direct appeals to get your audience involved in both channels.
