The book chronicles the life of Jim Miller from his youth as a budding entrepreneur to his days as a young commercial fisherman and beyond. Armed with an eleventh grade education and smart as a whip intellect, Miller became an inventor with patents to prove it, and went on to build numerous successful businesses. Along the way, the book includes hilarious stories of growing up on rural Long Island, a heart wrenching and chilling description of one of the worst charter boat disasters in US history, as well as a good dose of practical wisdom and insightful philosophies.
Commissioning of the book was a gift from Jim's son and MEG owner and CEO Mark and Mark's wife Biriçim. The project was kicked off for Mr. Miller's 80th birthday and was two years in the making. "His life story is a true American Dream. The stories recounted in the book conjure up images of characters from Mark Twain and Horacio Alger," said Mark Miller. He added, "If I hadn't been around for many of the stories, it would be hard to imagine one person having such an extraordinary journey."
A book release luncheon was held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the North Fork Country Club with family and friends in attendance. The author, Benedict (Ben) Cosgrove, participated in the festivities and received a commemorative photo of the book cover signed by Jim Miller.
