Illinois SBDC and JVS Chicago Add Exporting Workshop-The Riddle of the Exporter to Training Repertoire

The Illinois Small Business Development Center/Duman Entrepreneurship Center at JVS Chicago Is Teaching Local Businesses How To Export, Offering The Innovative One Day Seminar, The Riddle of the Exporter

Three-quarters of the world's purchasing power and almost 95% of its consumers are outside America's borders, according to the Office of the US Trade Representative - but some Chicago small businesses aren't sure how to reach customers outside of the US.

The Riddle of the Exporter™ partnering with JVS Chicago plan to change that. The Riddle of the Exporter™ has been called the most innovative seminar on exporting providing an interactive approach for entrepreneurs.

The Illinois SBDC/Duman Center at JVS Chicago will present "The Riddle of the Exporter,"™ on Nov. 14 at JVS Chicago's 3525 W. Peterson Ave. office in Chicago. Registration: amyberk@jvschicago.org or 312-673-3429

"We try to help small businesses grow," said Donna Rockin, Director of the Illinois SBDC/Duman Center for Entrepreneurship. "In this case, we are providing training for the intermediate small business, ideally one that has been in operation and is ready for new challenges."

Elyse Eriksson, former Director of Training at the International Trade Center SBDC in Dallas, Texas, created The Riddle of the Exporter™ seminar and workbook. "The seminar covers the eight steps that small businesses need to take," said Eriksson. "It takes the exporting business from the entrepreneur's viewpoint rather than from government's. Participants engage in the nuts and bolts of export transactions."

Eriksson trained JVS Chicago seminar presenters Steve Bob and Shelby Parchman, who will conduct the Nov. 14 seminar. The seminar will run from 9 am-4pm. Early bird pricing for the seminar, which lasts until Nov. 7, is $99.

JVS Chicago serves more than 8,000 job seekers, employers and entrepreneurs annually. Services include career counseling, job skills training, professional job placement and matching, small business development, training and access to capital.
